Kinds of Fun and Kinds of Players

Fun is another word for learning. 

We currently know what Fun is, but it would help to know why things are fun. This is what this reading will be about. Defining Why things are fun.

Kinds of fun:

• Sensation
• Fantasy
• Narrative
• Challenge
• Fellowship
• Discovery
• Expression
• Submission

These are not all-or-nothing propositions. Games can contain several kinds of fun, in different amounts.

Types of players:

• Achievers
• Explorers
• Socializers
• Killers (Also known as griefers)

Which comes first: The Player or the Fun?

We do not create players. As game designers, our rules do not create new players or player types. Therefore, any list of player types is only useful to the extent that it is correlated.
