Games are very difficult to define in just one category. By looking at the similarities a few themes can be brought to light so that we can create games. Some parts of games and some of the things designers should consider when looking at the Atoms are:

Is there any exact rules to how many players that can play?
How does this effect the play?
- Objectives
What is the objective of the game?
What are players trying to do?
Once you know the game objective, may other formal elements will define themselves for you.
