Feedback Strategies

Be a Mirror

The first article that attracted my attention was "Be a Mirror" written by Gravity Goldberg. The article is based all around giving feedback and the advantages/disadvantages that feedback can cause. It gives great advice on how to literally "Be a Mirror" when it comes to feedback and always reflect back on what is in front of it. The idea of focusing on not making the feedback about yourself is crucial. This way it you're not making their idea's about yourself. Saying things like "I like how.." will make it more about pleasing the person rather than actually focusing on their work and I find this really interesting and good information to give forth.

Five Reasons to Stop Saying "Good Job!"

The reason I picked this article is because it reminds me of the famous movie "Whiplash". In a part of the movie the main antagonist says to the protagonist - "There are no two words in the English language more harmful than "good job"."

Good Job! Doesn't reassure children; Ultimately, it makes them feel less secure. If anything it makes them think "I've done a good job, I don't need to try anymore."
Saying "Good Job" is the worst thing that you can do to someone because if anything it causes demotivation.
"Good Job!" can undermine independence, pleasure, and interest, it can also interfere with how good a job children actually do.
